Unwritten Truths

Here is a list of things Christians believe whose answers are not written in the Bible but they can be inferred.

Cain's wife/incest

Cain married his sister. This is because from one man (Adam) God made all nations (Acts 17:26). Incest wasn't outlawed until Leviticus 18:6-18. Note it is implied in Genesis 2:24 that father/sister, mother/son relationships have never been allowed.

Jesus and Holy Spirit existed before humans were created

The Holy Spirit is eternal (Hebrews 9:14) as is Christ Jesus (Colossians 1:17). The role of the Holy Spirit as a Helper (John 14:26) and indweller of our temple if Saved (1 Corinthians 6:19), and the roll of Christ as Redeemer (2 Corinthians 5:21) was ready to go at the appropriate time. I find that rather amazing.

Vegans before the Flood

(Actually this truth is somewhat written in the Bible) In Genesis 1:29-30, God tells Adam and Eve (and the animals) that they can only eat plants. After the Flood, God told Noah he could eat animals as well (Genesis 9:3). Should we assume animals started eating other animals after the Fall, when God cursed the ground (Genesis 3:17-19)? Had God created parasites before the Fall? What did spiders catch with their webs before? What did Velociraptors eat with their pointy teeth? What did carnivorous plants eat? A fossil was found with a lizard inside its stomach. Carnivores have smaller intestines compared to herbivores, etc. I'm going to trust that the Lord has an answer!

No death before the Fall

When Adam ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, death entered this world (Romans 5:12-13). As the animals were Vegans at the time, was there no death before the Fall? When Adam walked over to the tree of knowledge of good and evil, wouldn't he have possibly stepped on an ant and killed it? What if Adam had walked off a cliff, would he have died? There are some insects that only live for about a day (perhaps this was set only after the Fall). There's a ton of bacteria living on our bodies, in the nose, mouth, and gut. Did they not die? Perhaps the death mentioned is spiritual separation from God? Paul talks about this death in Romans 7:9.

In Genesis 1:31, God declared His Creation "very good". Can "very good" include death? Romans 8:20-22 indicates that creation was subjected to decay because of Man's sin. 1 Corinthians 15:25-26 mentions the last enemy to be destroyed will be death, meaning it was not apart of God's original plan!

Christ wasn't born on Dec 25th nor was He crucified on a Friday

We don't know what day Christ was born, but we celebrate it on Dec 25th. If you have a chance you should read about how this day came about.

Likewise, many churches celebrate Good Friday as a chance to reflect on Christ's crucifixion. We know that the tomb was empty on the first day of the week (Matthew 28:1) (Sunday is the start of a new week). We also know that Christ said He would be in the "heart of the earth" for three days and three nights (Matthew 12:40). This might mean He was killed on Wednesday evening, if you count back. Two men also talk about His death happening and then Sunday being "the third day since all this took place" (Luke 24:21). What is confusing to me is that the Jewish day possibly started at night, when Genesis 1:5 says a day is "evening and then morning". However, the Jewish relative hour mentions it starts at the break of dawn (not midnight). Whenever it was, enjoy taking the time to celebrate Christ's birth and Resurrection!
